Hi, I'm Joe, I live in Albuquerque, NM and I was a factory trained video technician for many years. I was factory trained by Sony for Betamax, and by JVC, Panasonic and a few other brands for VHS. I've also serviced TV's, projection TV and audio.

I'm no longer in the repair industry, but can apply some of my past experience to problems and questions people may have.

I have enjoyed not only watching movies on VHS but doing my own productions on tape. I enjoy the editing process onto a S-VHS editing VCR, which is now becoming a lost art. True enough, there aren't nearly as many special effects available for VHS as there are with non-linear editing, but most real films don't require special effects to work. Or, a movie that requires special effects is not a good movie. Most foreign films, for instance, used simple jump cuts, rather than dissolves or other fancy transitions.

Best of all, VCRs don't require rebooting or defragging the hard drive, and they don't crash in the same way that PCs do. Sure, tape can be a fragile medium, but often its more robust than optical media.

I hope to see VHS remain a viable, perhaps "underground" media going forward past the Feb 2009 shutoff of analog TV, collected and kept alive by enthusiasts.

~Joe

Hello all, I'm eddie, I'm, from Philadelphia, gonna be 27 in a month.
My love for vhs tapes has always been there, especially since in the mid-early 00s I recorded lots of WWF PPV's and RAW's and Smackdowns on tape (best is an 8 hour tape with PPV, Raw and Smackdown afterwards) so I always want to have a vcr to play those.
In like 2009 or so I started goin to flea markets and would see vhs tapes cheap (usually a buck each), so that began my interest in gettin them cheap, and them I moved onto thrift stores, the one near me does 3 for $1! Its a great way to see movies I always wanted to see for cheap, and I would rather watch em on vhs than in 10 parts on youtube lol.
Up until last week I had a Sony DVD/VCR Player (SLV D360P). I finished watching the original Amityville Horror (never watched it til then), was rewinding the tape, was startin a dvd, and it just went off for good, and would not work again no matter where I plugged it in! So, I accpted it, I had it since 2005, so it gave me a good 6 years.
I have a XBOX360 so that will by my dvd player now, and for a VCR, I went to the thrift store near me,tried out a few (of course a few didnt work) and wound up getting a Sony VCR (Sony SLV-N55). works really well, rewinds insanely fast. Now I just need to get a universal remote that it will work with and i'm good :)
