Two of my VCR's have developed faults within a few weeks of each other.
It's a strange coincidence. The first, a JVC S3500u which I've had since
new *looks* as if it's working, but nothing happens when you hit play.
I opened it up and I can see the video head is not spinning.
Something like this happened when the VCR was a few months old and
it was fixed under warranty. They told me at the time that a
protection circuit had tripped. How do you reset the protection circuit?
The second, a Panasonic HS-u748 has developed a mechanical problem.
It first appeared as a knock during playback. I put my finger into
the tape slot to feel the tape and it felt as if something was hitting it.
I opened it up for a better look, and you can see during playback,
search or FF, the right spool
raising slightly and then dropping back to where it should be - this
is causing the knocking noise. The tape itself is fine, the problem not
specific to that one tape. I looked at the mechanism with the
tape removed, I can't see anything that appears loose.
Pleased to find a forum dedicated to VHS - I've still got hundreds
Thanks for any advice/information.
